Had been excited about the trip…mainly to visit their Angkor temples and to see how’s life for cambodians. It had not disappoint me. I see for myself both beauty and sadness in this place.
Visited both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Different experiences in both places.
Siem Reap
A laid back place despite their famous Angkor temples. Most of the inhabitants are farmers. Compared to Phnom Penh, it seems to have more poor people around in Siem Reap.
There isnt any tall building around in Siem Reap. It was said that their govt has set the rule that buildings cannot be taller than 4 storeys. There is no factory in Siem Reap too. Reason: To show respect and to preserve their famous Angkor temples. (One of Cambodia’s main source of revenue is from tourists)
Ancient Angkor Thom Temple and Angkor Wat Temple (ex-7wonders of the world) left the most impression in me - Kingdoms of ancient Cambodia…amazing structure! Beautiful!
We also visited their floating village - Kampong Luong. You will see floating houses by the lake…you will hear buzzing motorboats, childrens voices and dogs barking. There are school, church (build by korean christians) and souvenir shop in the floating village. Children will hop from their motorboat to our tourist boat to sell Bananas! haa. Residents there drink, bath, wash their clothes with the same lakewater- yellowish and muddy. Quite poor thing. So children will beg you for water.
In Siem Reap, you will see more beggers including childrens. Oftenly, you see small children wearing no clothes. Very poor thing. But they are smart ppl ok… besides their khmer language, they learnt other few languages like mandarin, jap, eng… so when they asked you for money or food, they converse in mandarin to you. Amazing right?
Phnom Penh
Different sight of Cambodia. This place has some similarity to Vietnam, lot of motorcycles. Mainly chinese living here. Bosses from other countries like Taiwan, China invested in factories here.
If you have a weak heart, i will suggest you not to visit their killing field (Cheong Ek) and Toul Sleng Museum. These are sad places…esp Toul Sleng. This place confirmed is haunted cos when you entered you can feel as if hair standing.Toul Sleng used to be a high school but was later taken over by the Khmer Rouge as an interrogation and torture centre to purge Cambodia intellectuals and anti-Angkar ppl. They are many ways to torture ppl till death, i shall not describe over here, i can just say the methods are inhuman!!!

OH…one of the tour mate captured a pic with a soul reflection…. she showed it to us… we zoomed in to see and it looks real…damn scary…
Sounds like horror story telling…haha..anyway there are shopping markets in Phnom Penh - Central market and Russian Market. Better to shop in Central Mkt cos Russian Market is too cramped, dark and very warm.
Though i believe i wont be visiting Cambodia in the near future, but definitately i would say this place is worth visiting…you wont regret.
Looks like i have wrote a long story….wahaaa…. anyway for photos i have uploaded on the left <—- photo album. Check it out!
